I bought my Lotus Elise S1 somewhat unplanned, it hadn’t run in three years and needed a full restoration, but a conversation with Bradley at Franklins after I first viewed it about what work it would need, and what might be uncovered once we got into it, gave me the confidence to take it on. I’ve been a Franklins customer for a number of years primarily with a TVR but also with a couple of other cars, and having seen firsthand how they approach their work, entrusting them with this restoration was an easy decision.

That confidence was well placed. Their Lotus/TVR-specific expertise showed throughout, and when issues inevitably turned up during the strip-down, they found pragmatic, sensible solutions rather than the most expensive ones. Matt was super helpful in sourcing parts and dealing with some of the peculiarities of the car and communication was excellent the whole way through; I always knew where things stood, what needed to happen to move the project on etc.

The car arrived on a trailer in March and was back on the road and through its MOT by late May. Since then it’s covered 2,000 miles, including track days, without missing a beat.

If you’re thinking about purchasing a Lotus or TVR as a project and reviving it, or have larger overdue jobs on one you already own, you’ll be in very good hands with the team at Franklins.

I contacted Franklins about a fault with my Evora. The car was booked in and I met both Brad and Matt. They were extremely helpful with their knowledge of Lotus and advised me what the faults might be. Within a day the car was fixed and also stored securely for the night as I wasn’t able to collect it until next morning.

Bradley does a great job taking care of my TVR Chimaera and Mercedes SL500, undertaking regular maintenance, upgrades and the preventative works associated with older or more specialist sportscars to a high standard, at a fair price and accompanied by a friendly service. Bradley’s professional and methodical approach to diagnosing and rectifying issues is welcome, as is his in depth knowledge of TVRs.

I’ve also found Bradley and Matt willing to support with advice and guidance on current and prospective car purchases and other local trusted specialists for things like wheel refurbs, paintwork coatings and smart repairs which has been much appreciated.

I like a garage where you can talk to the mechanic and the mechanic listens, does not patronise you – or indulge in teeth sucking. I have an Audi Q2 which I bought from new. I took it into Audi for its first service after a year. I was told that I needed a new rear window wiper blade and that was not covered by any guarantee. This was absolute nonsense! Q2s design mean that the rear window stays relatively clear, so it doesn’t often need to be wiped.
At that point I lost all confidence in the Audi garage – next they’d be telling me I’d need new sprockets on the flangijam and that would be £750 madam.
As soon as I could I used smaller garages – OK but a bit Audi – and then, to my joy, Franklins opened. I used to use that garage when it was Nunn’s garage. And, like Charlie, Brad is an utter delight, knows his stuff and will not pull the wool over your eyes. Because he’s a small operation, his hourly rate is not exhorbitant.
So it’s a garage you can trust and be treated with respect. Lovely.

Bradley at Franklins looks after my TVR Tuscan and Cerbera, Jaguar XJR and my daughter’s Mini Cooper. We have nothing but praise for Franklins as the service is always thorough, courteous and reasonably priced. I would confidently recommend Franklins to anyone and those that have followed up on the recommendation have also been very satisfied.

Just bought my dream car from Franklins, a Lotus Elise, and its a beauty! It was great to initially drop by just to have a chat with Matt and Brad to get no nonsense, honest advice about buying and owning an Elise. A couple of weeks later I visited again to test drive a 2002 Elise and took the plunge. The car was serviced and prepared prior to collection and I was given a crib sheet highlighting the do’s and don’ts of Elise care and ownership. Good to know they can take care if all servicing too. Would definitely recommend Franklins to anyone looking for that special car.

I recently purchased a Lotus Elise from Franklins and wanted to explain how the procedure took place.
I first spoke to Matt after seeing the advert on Pistonheads, I was interested. In going to see the car but was just about to spend a week in France.
I kept in touch and said on my arrival back in the UK I would arrange to view which I did.
Matt was most helpful and has a vast knowledge of these cars which inspired a lot of confidence in me. Never once was I pressurised but just provided with a lot of information about the car and its history.
I was impressed with the preparation of the car and the length Matt went to explaining the pre sale Inspection and servicing provided.

I’m so pleased with my S1 Lotus Elise I bought from Matt at Franklin’s. It’s exactly as described and more. The showroom and workshop is immaculate, and Matt had presented the Elise beautifully with all the history on file receipts etc. Brad serviced this car to a very high standard, I’m super pleased with my Elise thanks to Matt and Brad.

We came down from Warwick to see a beautiful Elise Franklins had up for sale. The car looked like a gem online and was even better in person. Matt and the guys really went the extra mile to make sure the car was in top condition ready for sale. The only thing I didn’t love about the car was the stock exhaust, and they sorted that out too, fitting a much improved sports exhaust prior to me collecting the car. I will certainly keep an eye on their stock in the future.

Can highly recommend purchasing from Matt and the team at Franklins. From the warm welcome and cheery demeanour coupled to their extensive knowledge of a quality product it was a pleasure to deal with the team. Small imperfections with dealt without any quibble and a fair price was struck. It was definitely the best car buying experience yet! My wife and I drove just under 4 hours from North Yorkshire to see Matt about an S2 111S Elise and it was worth every mile. As I got there and spotted the car, I couldn’t stop smiling. The look and condition of it was just as described on the website and shown on the photos. This was my first time driving a Lotus Elise and I wasn’t prepared for just how different of an experience it would be. To be completely honest, I wasn’t sold on the idea of owning one after my test drive and that’s when Matt’s knowledge, incredible patience and honesty came into the picture. I can without a doubt say, that if it would’ve been any other garage or person, I probably would have driven away disappointed and without actually buying the car. But Matt gave me plenty of time to think and after a while and a few long conversations he recommended a second test drive. That did the trick! From start to finish, buying my car through Franklins was an absolute delight.

I had been looking for a Mazda MX5 for some time and looked at several cars which despite being described as immaculate were very disappointing. I called Franklins and had a chat with Matt about an MX5 which had just come in but hadn’t been prepared for sale. Matt invited me down to look at the car and upon arriving the car was exactly as described. Matt took me on a long test drive to make sure I was 100% happy with the car (which I was) and when we got back he put the car on the ramp so I could inspect the underneath. A deal was agreed and when I came to collect the car a week later it was prepared perfectly and he had even put Lanoguard on the underneath of the car free of charge to help protect it in the future. We recently purchased a car from Franklins and the whole process was perfect. Matthew was so easy to deal with and went out of his way to make sure the car was perfect for us. We cannot recommend this company enough , we are so lucky to have found Franklins , thank you Matthew.

I travelled down from Lancashire to see Matt about a Boxster 3.2 2003 reg with 73,450 miles on the clock which was advertised at the garage. When I got there I was greeted by Matt who offered us coffee and a friendly manner. The car looked every bit as good as in the pictures. I went out on a great test drive and I had to have the car. The car was exactly as explained. When we got back to the garage Matt asked his technician to place the Boxster on the ramp and show me and my friend the condition of everything. He indicated where the work had been done by themselves and showed us the general condition of underneath. We then had a look at the service history.

I also asked Matt if he’d look at the condition of the IMS, RMS and Clutch. Brad gave the IMS the all clear and changed the RMS and clutch plate. The car came with a 3 month realistic warranty for a 21 year old car.
All in all a fabulous friendly informative knowledgable easy purchase. Will be going back when I can afford a 911! If I was nearer I wouldn’t let anyone else touch the car.

Having been to see a number of Jaguar XK for sale I popped in to see one they had for sale. From the first interaction the level of knowledge and experience these guys have with these cars was obvious to see. A relaxed and informal discussion, helped with an exceptional example of the vehicle made the decision to buy an easy one. Personal experience of owning such a car , good and bad was shared and following a test drive I was hooked.
Price of the vehicle was very reasonable in my opinion and they could not be any more helpful in sorting out a couple of requests such as pick up day etc.
Having now had the car for a short time I am extremely happy with the vehicle and will be using these guys with future service, mot etc.

My Mx5 NB was in need of a Lanoguard treatment.
I dropped my car off on Wednesday and got it back on Friday. Brad was super friendly and helpful all the way along and even gave me lifts to and from Harlow bus station when dropping off and picking up my car to make my journey from Hatfield much easier. I also got very detailed before and after photos and videos, so I am very confident my car got the correct treatment. I will definitely be back when more jobs need doing!

I contacted Matt about purchasing one of his cars. He was very knowledgeable and provided a wealth of information, speaking to me like I was a human being rather than just trying to sell a car to me. The aftercare has also been exceptional, I can’t recommend Matt’s service more.

I wanted to get my Cerb chassis retreated and have a service done and I made contact with Franklin’s who got back to me very swiftly to say they could do that no problem. The fact Matt (the owner has a cerb himself made me feel like my car was in good hands).

After making the first call to Matt, until I arrived via train the next day, the car was ‘mine’ Matt said and fended off another possible buyer during that time. Great premises, tucked out of the way, (& a little tight to drive around to the back, so Brad does it for you 🤫) unbelievably clean for a workshop but reflects the professionalism of these two! Brad’s monster of a toolbox is like a display showroom model, but again reflects his attention to detail. I Loved the car as it was all that Matt had said. Even put it up on a ramp for me to look under after test drive of half an hour!! How many dealers can/would do this??? Coffee and chat and deal was made.
I couldn’t take the possibly ‘one off’ Jag home as there were a couple of bits I needed doing on it. Bits were ordered there and then and home I went. I was kept fully up to date with the progress and made trip back down when all done. I was shown the ‘old’ bits, as if proof was ever needed and went home happy. Highly recommended and very informative, and to be frank, you won’t go wrong dealing with FRANKLIN’S! 😏

Took my Chimaera in for a 12K service, MOT and few bits that needed attention. Brad kept me up to speed on all the work he carried out, offered sound advice and I’m extremely pleased with the results. He made an excellent choice on the bushes he replaced, which improved the handling much more to my liking. I’ve already discussed some additional work with him and I highly recommend them.

Just had a rear wheel bearing changed on my Chimarea 450 by Bradley – firstly, they were happy to work around my busy schedule, making it easy for me to get my car to them. Secondly, they know their TVR’s and took the effort to look mine over for other issues. This was not given to me in a ‘hard sell’ kind of why, more like ‘we have noticed’ and no quote pushed on me or anything like that. They just know the Chimaera and they want it to run well! The job was done to a high standard, in a short time and pricing was very good. Overall, I am happy that I entrusted my TVR to Bradley and I would not hesitate to go back!

Brought my Chimaera 500 to fix a noise. Brad’s huge experience and expertise is impressive and he zoned in on the problem really quickly. He took time to look round the rest of the car and didn’t rush telling me his advice and showing me the detail. I took him up on the advice and the difference to the car’s performance and handling was night and day. On pick up, the replaced parts down to the bolts were all laid out to see – and saved me a much more expensive future problem. Overall, the Matt & Brad experience generated huge trust that I’d gone to the right place!

The guys made my recent Lotus Elise S1 purchase a pleasure, true car enthusiasts – plenty of time to make sure you are comfortable and happy with the car and go that extra mile to ensure you are comfortable with the whole purchase process. My car is just so lovely. I am well and truly pleased with everything. Matt looked after me and what got me was the confidence I had in him as a salesman, he showed me things in the car and told me things I didn’t even know it could do. He was so truthful and upfront that I have complete faith in this guy. I am an engineer so I really appreciate being shown things that I don’t already know, I would use them again with no hesitation.
